Spring has to be just around the corner, right? I hope the winter break was restful for all. The children have come back ready to dive into the materials and all of a sudden recognizing new work they would like to try. We are continuing our study of the Fundamental Needs of Humans by shifting our focus to the various types of shelters built by humans over time. The children have been split into groups and are collectively researching the various aspects of shelters through different time periods, as well as planning to build a model of the type of shelter they're studying.

The entire Elementary class went on a field trip on Dec 3rd to the 18th Annual International Festival and had a great time! Thanks to transportation grant awarded from the Vermont Arts Council the school was able to rent a van and provide transportation to the event.

The children saw a Shakespeare version of Harry Potter, Peace music and dance piece performed by children and listened to some of the Hungarian and Romanian folk music that was staged during our time at the festival.

We've finally received some of that winter snow! The Elementary classroom was unable to have soccer this week because of it, however if there is no snow on the ground next Monday soccer will happen as usual. We would like to thank Jamie Biggam for all of his hard work and patience during the last few months. The children really look forward to Monday morning soccer (rain-"English weather" or shine!). They have practiced passing drills, shooting (lefty and righty), and have had small scrimmages. Despite the cold weather some mornings all the children participate and enjoy it.

I don't know about you but I can't believe it's November (well close enough) already! The start of the school year has been a learning experience for all. As always I really enjoyed meeting with all of you for conferences; your insight and observations of your children are always welcome and inspiring. Please don't wait for a conference if there is a situation or issue at home that has changed or you feel is worth sharing.

What a wonderfully busy start to the school year! Our cozy group of 14 has been spending the last month creating a community that is friendly, respectful and fun! Children have been using our new pin maps and checkerboard material, as well as revisiting some 'oldies but goodies'.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for work day. As always we were super productive and our environment looks great! The children are loving the handprints in the bathroom: thanks Sienna, Oliver, Quinn, Isaac, and Cyrus.

I think we can finally pack away those winter clothes...no, really I think we're past any more threats of snow! The children have been really flexible and open to the changing weather.

The warm weather has been so nice!  We have enjoyed a few mornings and afternoons working in our outdoor spaces.

We were able to go on a "Signs of Spring" hike this week with the ADM and Crossing Over children.  We saw flowers in bloom, buds on trees and heard some birds singing.  Fortunately (or unfortunately for the kids) the trail was dry:  there was very little of the 'telltale' Vermont sign for spring...mud!

Brrrrrrrrr!!! Baby it's cold outside! Despite the cold we have been able to get out a few mornings and afternoons for some fresh air. Please remember that if the temperature (with or without the wind chill) goes below 17 degrees we will not be going outside. If we don't make it outside the children are able to enjoy indoor movement games (songs, stilts, tumbling, funny walks, etc.) and games (checkers, blocks, Lincoln Logs, puzzles, etc.).

The snow has finally come! Please make sure that your children are prepared for going outside everyday: warm mittens/gloves, snow pants, hats, etc. I know I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again: please label your child’s belongings with initials. It is also helpful if your child is a part of gathering their own winter clothing either the night before or in the morning. A sense of responsibility and independence while doing this task will help to reiterate ownership of their own personal belongings. It was great seeing some of you at the Parent Open House.
